Corns  -

Corns occur as a result of too much pressure and often friction, causing the skin to harden and form a cone shaped mass on the toe.  It is important to note that corns are symptoms of underlying problems so it is a good idea to see us for proper diagnosis of the underlying condition and advice on how to best manage it.

The first step in relieving pain is to stop the pressure, which can be caused by shoes that are too tight or an abnormal gait.  We check your gait and fix any biomechanical issues that may be causing your foot to rub against your shoes.  We also use padding to relieve some of the pressure, check footwear fit and use orthotics or supports to align your foot correctly.  Should surgical correction be necessary, our office is the first and only to use the Fluoroscan video x-ray machine for the precise removal of corns.  This technology enables a shorter recovery time, minimal pain during and after surgery and is a great cost savings.

Cutting corns yourself can be dangerous, especially if you cut yourself. In the warm and moist environment of enclosed shoes, infection can easily developIt is especially important that those with diabetes or poor circulation see a podiatrist for the management of corns and calluses.
