Warts - Laser Treatment of warts - and conventional treatment
Warts on the foot can be a very stubborn problem. We have a systematic treatment for warts that is safe and effective, with minimal pain. Wart treatment is individualized depending on the size and number of the warts, how long the wart(s) has been there, the prior treatments, and your age. Yes, people age 9-16 seem to get warts easily but also get rid of them the easiest.
We start treatment of warts by "debriding" them and applying a topical acid then a topical anesthetic made for us by a compounding pharmacy. Home treatment is outlined in written handouts and includes home application of the special anesthetic which quickly stops the warts from hurting and often cures small warts! Because some of the substances used on warts can actually be harmful, we are very careful to use only the safest medicines available.
If the warts do not respond to the first line treatment, the microscopic laser is often used. The microscopic laser is precise in its treatment and quite effective. Please remember that NOTHING is 100% effective against warts - if there was a treatment that always worked -- everyone would use that one treatment all the time!
One more thing that is important: there is never an extra charge for the use of the laser - either for you or your insurance company. The laser is a tool that allows us to do our job better. Dr. Prant been using the laser for over 20 years and has served on the Seton Hospital Laser Committee.
